Description of experience
Thijs de Zeeuw graduated in 2011 at the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam with his design for The (un)conditional garden. A Garden for Artis, the Royal Zoo of Amsterdam, not about the exotic flora and fauna, but about every day nature. Part of this project was a design and research plot on the development of urban flora and fauna.
Between 2005 and 2013 Thijs worked for the renowned office of H+N+S Landschapsarchitecten. Here he worked on numerous projects combining water, ecology, technology and creativity into design principles and further on into real landscapes. Always with respect to historical meaning of the place and a realistic look up on the future.
The past years Thijs has worked on numerous designs for zoos. Both on the scale of master planning and enclosure design. More recently inspired by his work for zoos he instigated a multidisciplinary platform: the Nature-Optimist
Omschrijving ervaring
Thijs de Zeeuw studeerde in 2011 af aan de Academie van Bouwkunst met zijn ontwerp voor De (on)voorwaardelijke tuin. Een tuin voor Artis waarin het niet om exotische planten en dieren gaat maar om de flora en fauna van de stad om ons heen. Onderdeel van dit project was een proeftuin voor stadsnatuur.
Binnen het landschapsarchitecten bureau H+N+S Landschapsarchitecten, waar hij sinds 2005 aan verbonden is werkte Thijs aan een uiteenlopende range van projecten. Hier deed een uitgebreide kennis op van het Nederlandsche landschap. De belangrijkste thema’s binnen zijn werk voor het bureau zijn steeds ecologie en water geweest. Zo ontwierp hij aan de EHS maar ook veelvuldig aan de Hollandse dijken. In zijn ontwerpen brengt hij gevoel voor cultuur(historie), functionaliteit van het landschap en de praktische kennis van uitvoering bijeen.
De laatste jaren heeft Thijs regelmatig voor Artis ontworpen waar hij zijn gevoel voor landschapsecologie en cultuurhistorie samenbrengt in het ontwerpen aan specifieke dierverblijven. Het ontwerpen aan dierentuinen -zowel op het niveau van masterplan als het dierverblijf- heeft Thijs geïnspireerd tot de oprichting van een multidisciplinair platform: de Natuuroptimist.
